Shit The Cow – volume/cow EP (self released)
DL
Out Now
Swedish band Shit The Cow recently hit us up on the email & asked us if we’d be interested in reviewing their recently released EP. Knowing our writers well I immediately replied that with a name as good as that they were already assured of a review irrespective of how they sounded. As it happens though the music’s pretty bloody good too. Adrian Bloxham fills us in.
A band called Shit The Cow already have a lot to live up to. With a name as brazen and in your face as that you really hope that they have the tunes to back it up. The name conjures up images of dirty leather jackets with filthy embroidered biker cutoffs over the top with a lurid logo. It brings to mind dirty, nasty rock ’n’ roll. Let’s see if the music stands as tall as the moniker.
The sound doesn’t fall on its face, it throbs with rock’s most antagonistic guitars, they reflect those massive riffs from the likes of Ron Asheton, The Reid brothers and the darker side of Lou Reed. The backbone rhythm section just keep things kicking along nicely and the vocals are understated and only really lose their grip occasionally where a hint of desperation creeps in and the music flips up a notch.
This is sixties garage throwback and a vital slice of Rock’n’Roll to make you remember the records that meant something way back when. They are not living in the past, this music is timeless and should be represented by old and new kids until the world explodes. This band belongs on a stage in a dirty bar playing their hearts out to like minded misfits in the dark.
Shit the Cow are from Sweden, this is their first release. They are a duo, Peter singing and on guitar and Daniel on guitar and bass. You can tell from the sound that this release means an awful lot to them, and so it should. As a debut EP this is a slice of primal garage rock’n’roll that needs to be listened to, danced to, played as loud as possible to as many people as it can be.
All words by Adrian Bloxham. More of Adrian’s writing on Louder Than War can be found here.
