Harkive project logoMusic fans are being asked to keep track of their listening and share the results as part of the second annual Harkive day.

The mass observation project asks fans to share the how, what and why of what they hear in order to form a global snapshot of how music is being heard. This year Harkive will take place on Tuesday 15 July 2014 and stories can be shared on social media, through blogs or by emailing the project.

Speaking to Louder Than War ahead of the first event last year Harkive project manager Craig Hamilton said: “The landscape of music consumption has changed radically over the last decade.

“Services that many of us take for granted, such as YouTube and Spotify, simply did not exist 10 years ago. Meanwhile, the resurgence of some physical formats, and vinyl in particular, show that these still resonate for fans.

“Harkive will discover how we each create our own patchwork from what is available to us, and will map how these change in the years to come when Harkive returns in 2014, and beyond.”

Visit the Harkive website for a full list of prizes, see example contributions from music journalists and find out more about the project.
