The recent Peter Hook and the Light gig at Manchester Cathedral was a triumphant re-assement of his early New Order back catalogue. In the atmospheric and perfect setting of the venue, the songs were played with an added edge that reinvigorated them and made them more than mere retreads.

Fortunately the gig was recorded and is due for release soon with the release of  Peter Hook & The Light’s full live Manchester Cathedral concert of  New Order’s “Movement” and “Power Corruption & Lies” and other singles from the 1981 to 83 period of both LP’s.

The full live recording of 26 tracks by Play Concert will be released on their site www.playconcert.com on Monday 22nd April 2013. Play Concert previously recorded two gigs on The Light’s November 2012 tour Unknown Pleasures – details here.

In advance of other dates to be announced for the year, The Light have just announced a string of UK dates featuring the New Order albums, including a new London date with a headline show at The Coronet on Saturday 21st June where the band intend an electronic influenced set from the albums and singles and a return to Buxton Opera House for a double header featuring both “Movement” and “Power, Corruption & Lies” in full on Tuesday 23rdJuly.

The Light are also to perform a “Movement” and “Power Corruption & Lies” highlights show at the Crooked Ways Festival on Saturday 1st June with dates playing the Joy Division albums “Unknown Pleasures” and “Closer” also coming up in Holmfirth and Russia in April, an emotive concert at Christ Church in Macclesfield for Barnaby Festival in June and Rebellion Festival in Blackpool August of this year.

Dubbed “quite extraordinary” and “a real triumph” by critics, here with some selected quotes  on the concert, more of which appears in the release attached.

“There was never any doubt that this gig by the New Order legend and his new band was to be something quite extraordinary… Hooky’s bouncing, bending stage presence give this whole performance the urgency and, aptly, movement that it might be said is lacking in the ‘other’ New Order’s live performances of the past year.”  Manchester Evening News

“What Hooky has done is grab these songs by the scruff of the neck and give them a punkiness with his bass driving the songs with an added raw power.Tonight is a real triumph – everything was perfect from the venue, to the acoustics, to the delivery of the songs, to the tight band, to the vocals and that distinctive great bass playing…Hooky has made these songs have a very different narrative and put a whole new heart and soul into them.” Louder Than War
